AN AMERICAN SMALL PRESS PUBLISHING COMPANY KNOWN FOR PUBLISHING MANY SCIENCE FICTION CLASSICS.  GNOME WAS ONE OF THE MOST EMINENT OF THE FAN PUBLISHERS OF SCIENCE FICTION PRODUCING 86 TITLES IN ITS LIFESPAN.  GNOME HELPED TO TRANSITION SCIENCE FICTION FROM MAGAZINE PHENOMENON TO MASS MARKET PUBLISHING BUT PROVED TO BE TO UNDERFUNDED TO MAKE THE LEAP FROM FAN BASED PUBLISHING TO THE PROFESSIONAL LEVEL.  AFTER 10 YEARS IT FADED DUE TO ITS INABILITY TO COMPETE WITH MAJOR PUBLISHERS.
